Their story began in Brentwood, Essex. Originally from Kent, Ryan met Molly, who is from Essex, and one of their first proper dates was at a Turkish restaurant in Brentwood. They ended up talking for hours, and from the beginning, spending time together just felt easy.
Although they had different backgrounds and personalities in some ways, they clicked quickly and found they really enjoyed spending time together. There was no need to force conversation or try too hard to make things work. They simply enjoyed being around each other, and before long, those early dates became the start of something much more meaningful.
A LOVE THAT FEELS LIKE HOME
One of the things he loves most about their relationship is how they balance each other out. They take turns being each other’s chaos and calm. When one of them is stressed or overthinking something, the other knows how to bring things back down to earth.
It’s often the little things that mean the most to them. Their evening walks as the sun sets, deciding what film or TV series to watch, laughing at something completely insignificant, or simply sitting together without feeling the need to do anything.
Over time, he realised that it wasn’t just the big moments that made their relationship special. It was how much he enjoyed the everyday ones with Molly, and how naturally she had become the person he wanted to share his life with.
A SURPRISE PROPOSAL IN WHITSTABLE
Planning the proposal began in early August, when he secretly started looking at engagement rings and booked an appointment with Abelini. After narrowing his options down to a few designs, he arranged a second visit with Molly’s sister to get her opinion and blessing. Luckily, she loved the ring he eventually chose, too.
He also spoke to Molly’s mum and dad in private to ask for their blessing and let them in on his plans. He had already decided where he wanted to propose: Whitstable, one of their favourite places and somewhere that had been special to them since early in their relationship.
He arranged for a photographer to hide nearby and planned to pop the question on The Street at Tankerton around golden hour.
The weather, however, had other ideas. It had been unsettled throughout the day, with rain threatening to spoil the plans. Thankfully, it stopped just before the proposal.
There was still the small matter of getting Molly to walk out onto the damp pebbles without giving anything away. Once they reached the right spot, he asked her to look out towards the sea while he pretended he wanted to take a silhouette photo. As she turned towards the water, he got down on one knee.
When Molly turned around and realised what was happening, she was completely taken by surprise. After weeks of secretly organising everything, the moment had finally arrived.
He describes it as one of the happiest moments of his life. After all the secret planning, seeing Molly’s reaction made the moment even more special.
PICKING THE PERFECT RING
When it came to choosing Molly’s engagement ring, he already knew what she wanted: a platinum band and an oval diamond. He wanted to make sure the ring matched her taste, but he also hoped to find a design that had a little something of his own in it.

When he finally saw the finished ring, he was incredibly happy with how it had turned out. The craftsmanship and detail in the crossover setting were beautiful, and the oval diamond looked amazing in the platinum band. Best of all, Molly absolutely adores it.

With their wedding to plan and a new home in Essex, Ryan and Molly have plenty to look forward to. They are excited to keep building their life together, travelling, making new memories and, eventually, growing old together.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES
For anyone planning a surprise proposal, his advice is to pay attention to the things your partner really wants. Knowing Molly had her heart set on an oval diamond and a platinum band gave him a good starting point without giving away his plans.
But he also believes there is room to make the ring your own. The crossover shoulders were a detail he particularly liked, and choosing them meant the ring reflected his taste as well as Molly’s.
